Acetone is a good solvent for most plastics and synthetic fibers including those used in laboratory bottles made of polystrene, polycarbonate and some types of polypropylene. It is ideal for thinning fiberglass resin, cleaning fiberglass tools and dissolving two-part epoxies and "superglue" before hardening. It is used as a volatile component of some paints and varnishes. As a heavy-duty degreaser, it is useful in the preparation of metal prior to painting; it also thins polyester resins, vinyl and adhesives. Wikipedia®
Ethanol (CDA-19)...
Pure ethanol and alcoholic beverages are heavily taxed, but ethanol has many uses that do not involve consumption by humans. To relieve the tax burden on these uses, most jurisdictions waive the tax when an agent has been added to the ethanol to render it unfit to drink.  Such is the case for the industrial product, CDA-19.  Ethanol is miscible with water and is a good general purpose solvent. It is found in paints, tinctures and markers.
Isopropyl Alcohol
(Isopropanol - IPA)...
Isopropyl alcohol is readily available. Like acetone, it dissolves a wide range of non-polar compounds. It also evaporates quickly and is relatively non-toxic, compared to alternative solvents. Thus it is used widely as a solvent and as a cleaning fluid, especially for dissolving lipophilic contaminants such as oil. Examples include cleaning electronic devices (eliminate sources of ignition... devices must be unplugged and batteries removed) such the lenses of lasers in optical disc drives (e.g. cd / dvd) and removing thermal paste from IC packages (such as CPUs.) It is used to clean LCD and glass computer monitor screens (at some risk to the anti-reflection coating on some screens). Isopropyl alcohol removes smudges, dirt, and fingerprints. It is effective at removing residual glue from some sticky labels although some other adhesives used on tapes and paper labels are resistant to it. It can also be used to remove stains from most fabrics, wood, cotton, etc. Isopropyl alcohol is also used to remove brake fluid traces from hydraulic braking systems, again, do not use around sources of ignition... hot brake pads)  As a biological specimen preservative, isopropyl alcohol provides a comparatively non-toxic alternative to formaldehyde and other synthetic preservatives. Methyl Alcohol (Methanol)...
121px-Methanol-3D-ballsMethanol is used on a limited basis to fuel internal combustion engines. Pure methanol is required by rule to be used in cars and race series.  Sprint cars, as well as midgets, modifieds, etc.
Methanol is also used as a solvent and as an antifreeze in pipelines and windshield washer fluid.  It can also be used in the heat treating process and with Propane and Natural Gas to remove water.
Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)...
Methyl Ethyl Ketone is an effective and common solvent and is used in processes involving gums, resins, cellulose acetate and nitrocellulose coatings and in vinyl films. For this reason it finds use in the manufacture of plastics, textiles, in the production of paraffin wax, and in household products such as lacquer, varnishes, paint remover, a denaturing agent for denatured alcohol, glues and as a cleaning agent. It has similar solvent properties to acetone but has a significantly slower evaporation rate. MEK is also used in dry erase markers as the solvent of the erasable dye.Wikipedia®
Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (MIBK)...
MIBKUnlike the other common ketone solvents, acetone and MEK, MIBK has quite low solubility in water, making it useful for liquid-liquid extraction. It has a similar polarity to ethyle acetate, but greater stability towards aqueous acid and base. It can be used to extract gold, silver and other precious metals from cyanide solutions, such as those found at gold mines, to determine the levels of those dissolved metals. Diisobutyl ketone (DIBK), a related lipophilic ketone, is also used for this purpose. Methyl isobutyl ketone is also used as a denaturing agent for denatured alcohol. Wikipedia®
